1FM – Wish You Well
If you’ve been craving some classic hardcore, then 1FM just might be what you’re looking for.
‘Fire In The City’ kicks off the EP with some spiky, angular guitars that lead into a sound that sits somewhere between Blink-182 and Taking Back Sunday. In an era which might be described as post-emo, there’s something strangely nostalgic and comforting about the sound that 1FM produce. There are some more inventive and modern touches too, found on title track “Wish You Well”, with a dark piece of guitar work that veers towards a heavier tone, while the chorus itself lightens up once more with a bright, soaring vocal that unfolds into a roaring scream. “A Little More” keeps things on a tight leash with an upbeat pop-rock sensibility, while “Another Thing” draws once more on that melancholic emo tone that cuts so deep. Closing track “Four Letter Words” moves in yet another different direction, this time employing a touching piano riff that really draws out the track’s emotions. While it might not exactly be breaking any boundaries, Wish You Well is an ideal showcase for 1FM’s sound, which brings back many memories of classic emo and hardcore bands, while also serving to establish their own unique style.
