Get Up Close and Personal with Diplo

2016 has been one heck of a year for DJ, record producer, singer, song writer and record executive Diplo. Not only did Diplo win two Grammy awards, grace the cover of an issue of Billboard Magazine and co-produce two tracks on Beyoncé’s sixth studio album ‘Lemonade’, but he also sold out arenas and venues around the world with his Diplo and Friend’s tour – tickets can be found at See Tickets.

diploOver the past two decades, Diplo has made a big name for himself within the music industry – across all genres of music. Diplo’s collaboration list has big names such as Gwen Stefani, M.I.A. Britney Spears, Madonna, Beyoncé, Usher, Wale, Big Sean, Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, and Sean Paul – just to name a few. The musical genius is not slowing down and has several projects in the works now. Diplo founded the record company Mad Decent and is responsible for launching the company’s imprint label Jeffrees. Several years ago, Diplo also created The Mausoleum which is a video studio, recording studio, record label office, gallery and event space in Philadelphia.

Hit makers such as Christina Aguilera and Shakira consider The Mausoleum to be their musical haven. Many may find it bizarre that before Diplo found success and fame in the music industry he was an elementary school teacher in Philadelphia. Diplo worked with the students to create the artwork for the Hollertronix mixtape. The experience allowed him to capture the culture within the tracks. However, Diplo has enjoyed working with children so much that once he made it big he made sure that he went the extra mile. Diplo founded Heaps Decent which is a charity he uses as a social relief program to help children in Australia as well as other locations internationally.

He is extremely active within the charity and makes sure that the program continues to grow and help as many children as possible. Diplo credits home grown rap as a key role and influence in shaping his production style and creativity. He has said in many interviews that he tries to incorporate the same techniques used by his generation of rappers in order to stay fresh and intuitive. When he’s not busy making hits, Diplo can most likely be found at a Los Angeles Clippers game. During the NBA season, Diplo’s Snapchat and Instagram feeds are filled with videos of the game – he’s even performed at half =me shows at the Staples Center.
