Lyndsay Pace – Sick Day
Taking a four to the floor beat, swirling synth tones, electronic bleeps, and a confident sultry voice, Lynsday Pace’s ‘Sick Day’ is three minutes of pumping power pop.
There are some songs that really paint a picture. Think back to Whigfield’s ‘Saturday Night’ or even Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’, and you’ll be in the right ball park for what is on offer in ‘Sick Day’. At its core, this is a song about pulling a sickie to hang out with your friends and party. The whole vibe that runs through it is all about taking a chance and doing whatever the hell you like. For sure, the song has that mad catchiness that turns up in so much saccharine pop, and what makes it so odd and so fun is the crazy juxtaposition of ‘fun’ and ‘sick day’ – all the while with a sly knowingness that there is no sickness to be found, just the desire to get out of the house during the summer and have some good times.
It is the summer after all, so why not throw caution to the wind and take a leaf out of this Maltese singer’s book, give a ‘Sick Day’ a spin.
