RIP – Rebirth Of The Phoenix
RIP’s Rebirth Of The Phoenix takes all kinds of twists and turns – a hip hop record that uses modern production techniques to sound hot on the technological pulse.
‘Hot Head’ flies through chopped beats and vocals, with a huge layer on sounds and tones that at times becomes so think it’s hard to make things out, but that won’t stop you from nodding your head in time with the rhythm. ‘What You See’ tries a slightly different tack, using string samples laced into the brash beats and vocals, with drops that come in and out of the mix to keep things interesting the whole way through. What makes RIP’s style so fascinating is the layers of vocals, which are often double tracked with other elements flying in and out from the right and the left, creating a sonic onslaught in surround sound. There’s so much that could be said about Rebirth Of The Phoenix, it’s so rich with its samples and huge sounds that it throws all over the place. The bottom line is this – if you are in any way, shape, or form a fan of modern hip hot that likes to look back to the old school from time to time, you could do a whole lot worse than giving this at least a few moments of your time. Chances are if you do, you’ll be hooked.
