Three Dimensional Crew – TDC EP
Three Dimensional Crew arrive hot on the scene with their very latest EP, packed with minimal beats and a healthy dose of scowling attitude. Kicking off with ‘Put In Work’, there’s a lonely but powerful bass beat that thumps relentlessly throughout, like an erratic heartbeat. A strange sense of anxiety lies underneath, with questions of existence – “I’m still breathing / Until we’re leaving this earth”. Some tracks featuring guest Seraphik-G, namely ‘Goons’ and ‘Business’ keep the dreamy darkness going, with a tight flow on the vocal and featuring effects that create an otherworldly feel. ‘Chasin’ stands out as one of the stronger club tunes on the record, with a groove that keeps the attention and draws the listener in to be dazzled by the hypnotic melody that runs through the track like the blood in its veins. The beat goes on with ‘Pull Up’, thumping throughout and creating a firm foundation for the track’s other features – another intoxicating and minimal melody that weaves in and out of the steady rap. ‘La La La’ comes closer to a more mainstream feel, with its broad synth brushstrokes and catchy vocal hook – at times it feels as though Three Dimensional Crew have co-opted a chill out track and adapted it to their own nefarious purposes. This is a real hunk of straight up trap, so serve yourself up a slice and get lost in the all consuming beats.
