We Own The Night – Matthew Schultz
At first, ‘We Own The Night’ seems as though it might not quite be up to much, but first impressions can be deceiving.
A few bars in, the drums begin to simply be there as a foundation for the glittering production that Matthew Schultz has put together. And what a melting pot of styles it is – passing through moody hip hop, synthy ambient tones, sultry R&B, with some rocking guitar parts thrown in for good measure. Once ‘We Own The Night’ gets in to full flow, it’s the kind of thing that will get plenty of feet tapping and heads nodding, with Jim Jones’ guest vocal adding weight and texture to the track. Look a little further, and you’ll find a heady LA nightlife atmosphere embedded in the sound, one part woody and blissed out, the other part all self confidence and swagger. If it’s cool, cruising hip hop with a healthy dose of R&B you’re after, you won’t go far wrong with ‘We Own The Night’, so make sure it’s on your playlist next time you’re out in the car or getting ready for a party, and you’ll be well on the way to good times.
